Our history

  • The family business was founded on the 6th of June 1970 by Rudolf Grass and his son Werner Grass – R.W. Grass. First the activity consisted in mounting smallest measuring instruments for the company Grundig, Saha and Südfunk. At that time 8-10 permanently hired employees worked in a small garage in the centre of Vahrn and 25 employees worked at home.

  • In 1972 the company started doing assembly work for the company Märklin for Sprint Cars. In the same year the company was moved to a renovated building, a former sawmill.

  • In 1980 we moved to a rented building in the Brennerstrasse in Vahrn. From this moment on the assembling work done for the company Märklin increased every year: mounting of locomotives, points, signals and all the equipment for the metal sector HO.
  • In 1980 there were 70 permanently hired employees and 103 home-workers working for the company. The yearly turnover was about 1.300.000.000 Lire.

  • In 1987 we bought our own factory building from the Company Sanson gelati – Verona in the industrial area in Vahrn.
  • In 1992 we moved into the new building and we invested 2.200.000.000 Lire in improving our precision machine manufactory, because at that time the assembling work started to decline.
  • The orders for processing metal with machines increased permanently and in 1995 the yearly turnover was 6.744.000.000 Lire. 84% for Märklin. Permanently hired employee’s 96/home-workers 123.

  • In 1995 we purchased a machining centre for milling Traub TVC 200 P with pallet changer 400x300x400.
  • In 1996 we purchased a machining centre for milling and turning Okuma LB10-M2 with driven tools and rod charger, Max turning diameter Ø 120, off the rod Ø 40; max turning length 200mm.

  • In 1997 we purchased a machining centre for milling Heckert CSK 300 P with pallet changer 400x300x400.
  • In 1998 Werner’s son Jan Jorma entered in the family business. In the same year we introduced the Certification DIN EN ISO 9001.
  • In 1999 the founder of the company Rudolph Grass dies. Werner’s son Timo entered in the company.
  • In 1999 we purchased a lathe Okuma LCS 15 C with rod charger, AE 52 off the rod, max turning length 280mm.
  • In 2000 we enlarged the factory building and added a technical office.
  • In 2010 Werner’s daughter Cornelia entered the company.

 

From the year 2000 onwards we permanently invested in the metal processing sector:

 

  • In 2004 purchase of a machining centre for milling and turning Okuma LB300-MWwith
    tools sub spindle and rod charger, Max turning Ø 70 off the rod.

  • In 2006 purchase of a machining centre for milling Okuma MF46 VA with pallet changer 800x450x450.

  • In 2007 purchase of a 1 machining centre for milling and turning Okuma LT200-M
    with driven tools and rod charger; Max turning diameter Ø 52, 2 revolvers 2 spindles

  • In 2011 purchase of a machining centre for milling and turning Okuma LB300-MYW with driven tools,
    sub spindle Y axis and rod charger, Max turning Ø 70 off the rod.

  • In 2012 purchase of a machining centre for milling and turning Okuma LB300-EXMYW with driven tools,
    sub spindle Y axis and rod charger, Max turning Ø 80 off the rod.

 

In the meantime we are the supplier for various industries like the furnishing industry, print industry, artificial snow industry, toys industry, high voltage industry, automotive, medical applications, sensor technologies and some more.

In 2012 the permanently hired employees were 15 and 3 home-workers.

Now the two brothers Jan Jorma and Timo are managing the company together with their father Werner.
